Mono-Ammonium Phosphate (MAP) is a white crystal powder with assay ≥99%, P₂O₅ ≥61%, N ≥11.8% and water-insoluble matter ≤0.1%; the pH of a 1% solution is 4.2–4.8. With a relative density of 1.23 g/cm³ and a melting point of 180.0 ℃, it is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol and insoluble in ketone, and absorbs moisture easily; it may cake after long shipment (the caking can be crumbled by hand) and anti-caking agents can be added as required. It is mainly used as a water-soluble fertilizer supplying nitrogen and phosphorus and as a raw material for water-soluble NPKs. It is also used as a fire-proofing agent for fabric, timber and paper, an additive in fire-proof paint and a powder extinguishing material.
